TITLE: Heated Pursuit
SERIES: Alpha Security #1
AUTHOR: April Hunt
RELEASE DATE: October 25, 2016
The first in an all-new romantic suspense series from debut author April Hunt, perfect for fans of Julie Ann Walker, Lora Leigh, and Rebecca Zanetti!
Penny Kline didn’t come to Honduras on a pleasure trip. She’s here to rescue her kidnapped niece, the only family she’s got left. What she didn’t plan on was walking into a covert ops mission—or being wrapped up in the hard-muscled arms of Rafe Ortega. The cool-as-ice operative’s touch may get her all hot and bothered, but no man can have a hold on her heart until her niece is home where she belongs.
Even in the tropics, Alpha Security operative Rafe can take down the bad guys without breaking a sweat. Hostage extractions. Clandestine missions. Those are the things he’s been trained to handle. Relationships? Not so much. But one look at this strong, sexy redhead and he’s seized by a fierce urge to protect her at all costs. Now Penny and Rafe will have to up their game because they’re about to go into a master criminal’s lair without backup, and the danger—and passion—is about to explode . . .
Heated Pursuit was a great debut effort from April Hunt! This story hit the ground running from the very first page and kept up the pace straight through the last page.
Penny has a stubborn streak a mile wide so when her niece Rachel, the only family member she has left who is more like her sister, goes missing in Honduras, she doesn’t hesitate to hop a plane to try to find her. While Penny may be a bail enforcement officer now, her background is in social work so hunting down a drug lord and human trafficker may be a biting off a lot more than she can chew… but remember that stubborn streak I mentioned? To borrow and paraphrase a line from a favorite movie of mine, she most definitely demonstrates more balls than brains. It doesn’t take long before she is overpowered by 2 masked men and thrown into the back of a van despite putting up a decent fight. Fortunately for her, these are the good guys: enter the men of Alpha Security.
It’s a good thing Rafe Ortega isn’t planning to procreate any time soon because the 5 foot nothing redheaded spitfire just put the family jewels in a death grip as he tried to get her into the van much to the amusement of his best friend and teammate Trey. The twist here is that Trey and Penny were raised as brother and sister which will really complicate things given Rafe’s unexpected attraction to Penny and the bro code indicating sisters are off limits.
Alpha has been tasked with gathering intel on the cartel and its dangerous new product, and they have no intention of letting Penny compromise their mission. Rafe understands her need to rescue Rachel though and reluctantly agrees to allow her to help IF she can pass their tests in the field. Penny is one of those people who will never back down, and if you tell her she can’t do something, she will work twice as hard to prove you wrong. That stubbornness can be both an asset and a weakness, and it turns out to be a little bit of both as the clock ticks on Rachel’s imprisonment.
Neither Rafe or Penny is looking for a relationship but they find themselves falling deeper as the intensity of their circumstances ramps up, especially when they have to go undercover as a couple and go dark on all contact with the team. Rafe’s line of work and lifestyle don’t make it easy to have more than a one night stand, but he finds himself contemplating it more and more as the days pass. Penny has never had a man light her up with a single touch, but she has come in second place to the military too many times in her life so she is less than eager to do it again. Now Rafe finds himself in the unlikely position of trying to convince her to take a chance on him.
Heated Pursuit is filled with suspense, action, danger, sexy, swoony and smokin’ hot moments, and family dynamics galore which made for a page turning read for me. The team members have formed their own family bonds and they each have secrets just waiting to be revealed. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this author and will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series featuring Trey.
April blames her addiction for chocolate on growing up near the country’s chocolate capital, Hershey, Pennsylvania. Born and raised in a rural area, April always had lots of time to cultivate an active imagination, penning her first book at the age of ten, with a child’s typewriter a lot of liquid white-out. Even though both her stories and writing methods have changed drastically through the years, one thing hasn’t.
Cowboys, military men, and alpha bad boys with a penchant for corrupting the good girl are among her favorite heroes to bring to the page. As both a contemporary and romantic suspense author, April loves sweet, second-chance romances as well as the thrills and squeals of being involved with a man who feels more naked without his Glock than without his skivvies.
When April’s not donning her writing gloves, she’s busy raising two energetic kids and husband. And there isn’t a day that passes when she’s not dreaming up yet another happily ever after… (bio from author’s website )
