I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to read a few of these stories prior to release day to share my thoughts with you!

BLADE by Avery Flynn

She was a bad girl. He was an asshole. And yet, together, they were more than the sum of their parts.

Flynn and Gillie burn hot and fast, but that kind of combustion can lead to destruction. Last time they were together, their hearts were collateral damage as Flynn discovered Gillie’s questionable occupation when the cops showed up on his doorstep and he had to give her an alibi to keep her out of jail. With his career potentially on the line if the lie was discovered, betrayal overpowered his love for her as he left both Dallas and Gillie behind without a backward glance.

Three years later, Gillie has learned it is much more difficult to make ends meet when you are on the straight and narrow but she has been pushing through. Her dream of singing is no longer possible, so she opened a jazz bar to keep the dream alive in some way. Unfortunately it’s located  in the heart of country music territory which is not the ideal situation. When her past collides with her present, she is ready to say no until the hook is set: Flynn is going to be framed for stealing the Stanley Cup. The man may have shattered her heart, but she owes him for keeping her out of jail so she takes the job with the intent of helping him instead. Now she just has to convince the money man that she is truly on the job while convincing Flynn to give her a chance to actually explain, never mind convincing him to believe her since they parted ways because of her lies.

It doesn’t take much for that spark to fully flare back to life, but Flynn still has to battle through his doubts and mistrust to give his heart a chance to take the lead. When he realizes Gillie is truly in danger for trying to help him, he is all in but he needs the help of her brother Marko and the B Squad ladies to save her, the Cup and his career.

This story was an absolute blast! Gillie and Flynn are hot, sexy and fun together, and the plot to ruin Flynn by stealing the Cup was just outrageous enough that I could see it happening. There is a little tease of the next B Squad romance coming down the pike too, so all in all, I think Blade was favorite story out of the ones I have read so far.

CHECK MY HEART by Christ Barth

This one broke my heart a little bit! Kurt is forced to watch his teenage brother Jasper fight and ultimately lose the battle with cancer.  He promised Jasper to do everything in his power to win the Cup for him, and the support of the Rage and their fans meant the world to him as the team clawed its way to victory. Now that he has accomplished what he set out to do, Kurt is left feeling lost about what to do next.  Does he continue to play hockey, or does he go out on top and take the opportunity to pursue a different dream now that he realizes exactly how short life can be?

Lisette was Jasper’s hospice nurse in his final weeks, and Kurt is stunned to literally run into her in the halls of arena where he is working out. She is definitely a beauty and she helped him through the most difficult time of his life with her friendship, but she is an unexpected and slightly unwelcome reminder that he is unprepared to deal with.  In a selfish moment, Kurt makes a snap decision when he learns she is there to interview for a position with the team but he has no idea of the impact his choice will have.

Lisette cannot believe it when Kurt offers her a short term job with him after the Rage decline to offer her the position. She started to fall for him as she got to know the man behind the persona on ice, but she realizes he cannot separate her from the circumstances of how they came into each other’s lives. She decides to live in the moment though and takes the chance on helping him plan his day with the Cup since she has no other job options at the moment. Things are going well until the truth comes out; can she forgive him and find a way to move forward?

Check My Heart was another great story! Kurt and Lisette are great together, and his struggle to grieve and find a path forward after Jasper’s death was palpable.

DEEP CHECK by Kimberly Kincaid

Finn’s childhood was far from a fairy tale, and Ash and January were his only friends for many years as they became the equivalent of the Three Musketeers into their high school years. Both Ash and Finn wanted January, but Finn backed off in order to clear the way for Ash to have a chance with her. January viewed Ash as a brother and was more interested in Finn, but when she took a chance and tried to show Finn her interest it caused a rift between the guys that was never repaired before Ash’s death in the line of duty.

Ash always pushed Finn to follow his dreams, so now that Finn has won the Cup, he returns to his hometown to visit Ash’s grave with it. He realizes he needs to reach out to his Calendar Girl while he is there to try to mend fences with her, and although she may not give him the time of day, the Cup gives him the perfect excuse to try to get a few minutes of her time.

January never realized that Finn returned her feelings and that he left out of loyalty to Ash, but now that he is back for a visit, she has no intention of letting him leave again until they have had a chance to explore that mutual attraction. Cue the hot and sexy times! They have a lot of fun outside the bedroom too, and they effortlessly fall back into their old friendship with a new side of steamy benefits too. It quickly becomes apparent they still click as well as ever, but her place is in NC while he has a life in NOLA with the Rage. With his contract up for renewal and negotiations ongoing, is this the perfect opportunity to finally achieve his unrealized dream of a life with January? I bet you can guess! 😉

FREE AGENT by Robin Covington

Free Agent is a M/M story and the first one I have read from this author. DC aka Jamie is the first openly gay player in the sport, and he has experienced his share of both support and backlash for his decision to come out. He has a solid reason for his choice though aside from the desire to live his life in the open without shame, and he is on his way to his hometown of DC to see them: a group of underprivileged LGBTQ kids that he has taken under his wing over the years. He is pleasantly surprised to find his seat mate on the flight is none other than the sexy Etienne, a man who has set his motor revving on high for months but is off limits to him as one of the staff attached to the Rage.

Jamie has lit Etienne’s fuse for quite some time too, and now that Jamie is considering an offer from the DC team to move back home, it may be the wrong time for him to make a move but it may also be the only chance he gets. The guys decide to have one weekend of fun to get each other out of their system, but it only serves to get them both in deeper over their heads instead. If Jamie decides to stay with the Rage, their situation doesn’t change, but if he accepts an offer from his hometown team, it puts them on opposite sides of a long distance relationship instead. What to do, what to do…

The guys were both sexy and fun, and I absolutely loved Jamie’s group of kids as well as the guys’ friends in DC! Well done Ms. Covington- Free Agent is a great story!

Ford Callaghan has finally made it big, but he has no one to share it with. His brother Jax hasn’t spoken to him normally since their oldest brother died in a car accident just before he was to make his NHL debut. Ford was just 16 and driving the car that night, and Jax was injured badly enough that it cost him his chance at a future in the NHL too. Despite the circumstances surrounding the accident, Jax has all but cut him off and Ford’s only normal contact with his brother’s family is through his sister in law so that he can spend time with his nephews.  So Ford has returned to Chicago with Cup, but he has arrived a few days early and is hiding out in a hotel trying to mentally prepare himself for the coming days with his family and the media frenzy.  He is slumped on the balcony enjoying a beer when he overhears a group of women having a titillating conversation over the adjoining wall, and he can’t help but listen in. One sexy voice belonging to a woman named Addison stands out to him both for the story she is telling and her voice itself, and one smokin’ hot encounter follows! She leaves before he can track her down to exchange names but he has a small clue to follow that he hopes will allow him to find her.

Addy just moved to Chicago to open her own lingerie business after escaping her controlling ex-husband – a man who just so happens to be Ford’s boss! Oh boy! Of course once Ford tracks her down, there is a lot of “oh we shouldn’t but damn it feels so good” as well as a lot of self-doubt on Addy’s part. She may be a model but she still wonders what a man like Ford sees in a woman several years older than him with a whole lotta curves – not to mention that if her ex finds out that Ford is interested in her, he will ruin the man’s career just for fun to get revenge on her.

In Skates Trouble sets the stage for the author’s new Chicago Rebels series, and I cannot wait for the first full length book to be available! Addy’s best friend Harper is the team owner, and based on the initial indications in this story, Harper is going to have her hands full running the team with her 2 sisters who seem to be at odds with her.

All in all, this anthology is definitely a winner and well worth the price of admission, so grab yourself a copy now and get ready to enjoy the ride with a bunch of sexy hockey gods!
